Once upon a time, I asked an old man in the waiting room of a hospital. I asked him how hard a decision making could be. He scoffed as he replied, young man, making a decision can be very hard. It ranges from a small decision like choosing what color of your shirt to wear today to life or death. Each will have variants of impact. Which of those you think is the hardest one? He asked.
I replied, of course life or death.
He scoffed again and said, Choosing the color of shirt would be hard when it is tied to your first date with your crush. And life or death can be as simple as the life of an insect. Every context can mean different things in different situations or perceptions. Everything has an exception.
Making a decision you must always remember these factors. The first one is consequence. You must always think of the consequences from your choice. To do this you must know the situation around you that you will affect with that choice. The second one is important, Sincerity or Believe. If you don't believe that you make a good choice with sincere heart, you will always live with the feeling of regrets from that choice you make. The third one is the last factor that you can do nothing about; luck or fate. No matter what you do, no matter how careful you are in making a decision, you can never predict the outcome of the decision you make.
He let out a sigh as he said, bad things happen, young man... No matter what you do.
Luck can be unfair sometimes, I said.
He turned to me and said, most people say the world is unfair. They can really do anything about it. but you must know this. Everything happens for a reason. The reason could be either good or bad or both. When you can see the reasons from every possible perceptions, you will know that the world is actually fair. It is not easy, so I will only say this. Instead of complaining about it being unfair, why not try to make it fair for the people around you by treating them well. By doing that, you can make them feel better.
Also, remember this young man, money is something we humans invented. We should be the one who are in control of it. But time... It is true that humans invented clock and time system. But those are just measurements and ways to tell time. We can't really alter time. At least not for now.
So... Always pick family over job? I asked.
The old man scoffed and said, not true. A father who chooses job over his family have his reasons. He looked abandoning his family from the outside, but he might not from the inside. He might be thinking of sacrificing his time for his family. Even sacrificing his family's feeling for him just to make them happy. But like I said, you can never predict the outcome of a decision. The family may found out his real reason and love him for that or his entire savings can be gone one day because of thievery and his family won't help him at all.
I nodded and asked, but that wouldn't happen if the family knows his real reason, right? So all you are saying is to clear misunderstandings too?
Not true young man, he replied. Some refused to belive the facts. Some are blinded from the facts. Though clearing misunderstandings are the key point to most stuff, it is not always the best thing ti di. knowledge is powerful. It can be used as a terrifying weapon. And it can also backfire. Sometimes not knowing is better than knowing. Knowing something horrible that you could do nothing about will just stress you out over time, young man. What is harder is keeping secret. Keeping secret can be hard depends on how big the secret is.
Of course all the things I said have exception. There is always a scenario where the rules don't apply, sometimes we have to trigger it ourselves, sometimes we have to wait and see
As I gazed around the room, I can see people who are sad, frightened, happy or nervous all around me. I can easily tell what might have happened to them but my prediction could turn out wrong. But all I can really hope is that the choices I make would turn out for the better and help those who had been down on luck. I thanked the old man and return to my friends' chamber to check out on my friends who recently has an accident during a trip that I chose not to go because of my laziness.
